RSA Online Membership

 

In order to become a new full function online member of the Resource Sharing Alliance of the Alliance Library System (ALS), a library MUST:  

  Be an established library, ie. have a centralized, bibliographically organized collection of library materials;
  Have a librarian, ie. at least one person designated as librarian and/or a staff member knowledgeable in the CARL system (ALL FUNCTIONS) on duty all the hours the library is open to the public;
  Own a terminal and the corresponding telecommunications equipment for full function online access;
  Agree to pay all appropriate fees;
  Agree to write an Automation Plan with the aid of the ALS..
  Enter all titles into the RSA database following the RSA bibliographic standards;
  Maintain records in the RSA database, ie. delete withdrawals and enter new acquisitions, again meeting RSA bibliographic standards;
  Be a valid member of the ALS, meeting that system's criteria for membership;
  Agree to participate in Interlibrary Loan directly with other RSA libraries, being responsible for interlibrary loan loss expenses at 100% replacement cost and follow established interlibrary loan policies;
  Have a 24-hour telefacsimile transmission available in the library.
  All applications for RSA membership will be reviewed by the ALS, after an onsite visit, with final approval determined by the ALS Executive Board. Appeals may be made to the Executive Committee.
  Upon failure to meet membership criteria or upon election to withdraw from RSA, agree to pay all outstanding bills and expenses incurred by RSA during the period of membership.
  Agree to participate in RSA Committees, such as RSA User's Group, Troubleshooters, Database, etc.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  ALS will work with the library to complete an Automation Plan.
